Are the Outer Banks islands?

Summer Day Outer Banks NC Beach

Heck yes, the Outer Banks is a chain of barrier islands located off the coast of North Carolina… and they’re AMAZING!

If you have yet to visit the area, you are in for a treat!

Often referred to as simply OBX, the area boasts some of the finest beaches you’ll find in the United States. Regarded as one of the top five best places for a family vacation, there is much to see and love about the Outer Banks.

From wild horse tours in Corolla and lighthouse hunting on Hatteras Island to dune hang gliding and pier conquering in Nags Head, there’s something for everyone.

And let’s not forget about the food! If you love seafood, prepare your palette for some seriously delicious culinary options. Some of our favorites include Kill Devil Grill, Tale of the Whale and Rundown Cafe. (But there are so many other great restaurants to sample!)

So what are you waiting for? Have we convinced you to visit the Outer Banks yet?!?

Most people visit the area during the months of June, July, and August, which means crowds will be bigger and lodging prices will be highest during these three months. If you are able to visit during the shoulder season (we recommend September or October), do it!
