What does the OBX sticker stand for?
If you have been in a car for any significant amount of time in the last two decades, you’ve probably seen a black and white sticker with the letters “OBX” on it.
You may be wondering, what the heck do those three letters mean and stand for?
The letters OBX are short for “Outer Banks” which is a chain of barrier islands located off the coast of North Carolina.
The term OBX has been used since the 1990s, and tens if not hundreds of thousands of the basic black and white oval stickers have been sold since they were first made available for purchase.
Just about every souvenir store on the Outer Banks sells OBX stickers, including Wings and Kitty Hawk Kites. You can also purchase the stickers at Food Lion and Harris Teeter grocery stores on the barrier islands.
If you want to buy an OBX sticker and you aren’t on the coast of NC, you can order one for yourself or a friend online. We have some basic black and white as well as some more unique designs available for purchase on RedBubble.com. There are literally hundreds of stickers you won’t find elsewhere on this site from independent artists around the world.
You can also purchase OBX merchandise other than just stickers… the three letters are seen on a collection of Outer Banks t-shirts that we currently have for sale on our website.
These iconic stickers can be found on the bumpers of cars from coast to coast. OBX stickers are an affordable way to show everyone who’s driving behind you that you love visiting the Outer Banks, home to some of the finest beaches in the United States!
