Grave Digger: A Real-Life Outer Banks Monster
Did you know that one of the most famous monster trucks in the world is located in Currituck, NC, just 20 miles north of the Outer Banks? Pretty cool, right?
Grave Digger is considered to be one of the most iconic and influential monster trucks ever, and Digger’s Dungeon is home to this legendary mega truck, which has been raising hell in front of thousands of screaming fans for more than 30 years.
The truck has a sinister look and boasts over 1400 horsepower under the hood. If you’ve ever been to a monster truck show in your hometown, chances are you’ve seen Grave Digger tear up the course while competing with some of the sport’s most illustrious trucks and drivers.
There have been a total of over 30 Grave Digger trucks built – nine of which are still operational. Most of the ones that have been decommissioned were damaged while competing. Driving a monster truck for a living isn’t exactly the safest profession, but that’s what makes it so fun to watch! What’s not to love about an over-sized truck with a massive engine crushing school buses and flying through the air?
Next time you’re on your way to or leaving the Outer Banks, consider making a pit stop at Digger’s Dungeon. There’s something for everyone in the family including a diner, gift shop, and the chance to take a ride on a real monster truck through an obstacle course. You can also sit in one of the decommissioned Grave Digger monster trucks within the gift shop.
