The Dazzling Outer Banks Christmas House

The Outer Banks Christmas House is temporarily closed; please check back in late-2023 for more updates!

Nags Head NC Christmas House Outer Banks

In mid-November every year, the Outer Banks – the thin strip of barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina – gets a little brighter.

The Poulos family is a local tribe that spends about three months setting up a dazzling holiday display at their home located just outside the entrance to Nags Head Woods in the town of Kill Devil Hills, NC.

Featuring all of our Christmas favorites like Santa, reindeer, the gingerbread man, candy canes and so, so much more! Plus to go along with the lights display, there is almost always festive music playing.

During the holiday season, thousands of locals and visitors make a point to check out this stunning display of lights that cost a staggering $3,500 in extra energy bills each month that it’s turned on.

The holiday display is so spectacular that it has been previously featured as a national winner of a Today Show lights contest, and the home was once featured on HGTV!

The Poulos family has lived on the Outer Banks for many years and has been celebrating the holiday season by lighting up their home and yard for decades.

You can view the Poulos family’s holiday display from mid-November through December 31st. Apart from Winter Lights at the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo, NC, this light display is the most impressive you’ll find on the barrier islands!

Directions to Outer Banks Christmas House

  1. Proceed to light at Ocean Acres Drive (opposite MacDonald’s)
  2. Turn right at Ocean Acres Drive
  3. The road will change from paved to gravel as you go up a hill.
  4. Just over the top of the hill, you will find the Poulos home.

You’ll be able to tell which home is there’s, as the holiday display is difficult to miss!

If you put Nags Head Woods into your GPS, you will pass right by the home.

  • Went there with my dad and inlaws and our three children years ago. My dad, 82 asked if we were going this year and sadly they are closed. I pray everyone is ok. Many good memories from this family!

  • Sadly we are here and didn’t realize that they were not lit this year. I hope everything‘s OK and it’s not pandemic related or that they lost their ladder.
