Blue Moon Beach Grill in Nags Head NC
Consistently one of the top five best rated restaurants in Nags Head on TripAdvisor, Blue Moon Beach Grill has received high praise from countless diners since the business first opened its doors not so many years ago.
Owned by Will and Karen Shields, a dynamic husband and wife duo that has certainly made a name for themselves locally. Blue Moon Beach Grill started out as a 32 seat restaurant, and later expanded to it’s current 64 seat dining room.
The establishment is located in the Surfside Plaza (milepost 13) in Nags Head.
Great food, cool atmosphere, helpful and friendly service and a great bar. The wait can be long at times, but it’s not a huge place and it’s really popular! Would you rather go somewhere that’s less spectacular and not have to wait? Probably not!
There are always daily specials, and plenty to choose from for anyone who loves seafood or good southern cooking. There’s typically a good mixture of locals and vacationers during dinner service, which is a good sign. If locals aren’t eating at the place your dining at, there’s probably a reason.
Diners can enjoy a very laid back atmosphere, which is perfect for a town like Nags Head, a place that’s inhabited by tens of thousands of vacationers each week during the bustling summer months.
As stated on their website, Blue Moon Beach Grill’s menu consists of mostly “southern comfort food, with a creative twist and flair.”
You can not make a reservation, which is cool if you ask us. They can accommodate parties of up to 12 people – if your group has more people, you can still eat here, however you’ll have to split up into different tables.
Blue Moon Beach Grill is indeed open all year, which is not something many locally-owned businesses on the Outer Banks are able to do.
Why is Blue Moon Beach Grill able to stay open year-round? Because their food is freaking delicious and although there aren’t that many vacationers in the area during the winter, plenty of locals are happy to support the restaurant and take advantage of the smaller crowds and shorter wait times.
(The off season here is pretty spectacular… If you are able to visit the Outer Banks during September or October, do it!)
Blue Moon Beach Grill is open every day from 11:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.
Are you curious how the restaurant got its name?
Well, a blue moon is an uncommon event. The term refers to the second full moon that occurs in any given calendar month. On average, there will be 41 months that have two full moons in every century. By that calculation, “once in a blue moon” means once every two and a half years.
So if you want a truly memorable dining experience, be sure to visit Blue Moon Beach Grill for lunch or dinner during your vacation. You won’t be disappointed!
